I'm a Design Lead at Twitter in San Francisco. I'm a designer and storyteller. The focus of a lot of my work has been on bridging disciplines across design, business, and technology, to create space where great design can take place. I know that building products that are useful, simple, and beautiful is really hard work, and worth all the effort. I believe that communication and connecting people is a meaningful thing, which is why I've been working on mobile products and services since 2003.

Before joining Twitter, I was a Principal Design Lead at Microsoft. I was a member of the Windows Phone design studio, where I led design for the Social, Communication, Productivity, and International experiences on Windows Phone. When we first launched Windows Phone in 2010, I spent a lot of time helping designers and developers learn how to build Apps for the platform. In 2011 I helped establish and build the relationship with Nokia. From 2008-2010 I led design for the KIN user experience. From 2004-2008 I was part of Nokia Design's Insight & Innovation team in Los Angeles. In 2003 I worked on Microsoft's SPOT project, and in 2000 I was an Industrial Designer at Designafairs in Erlangen, Germany.

I studied Interaction Design at the Umeå Institute of Design in northern Sweden. I have a Bachelor of Industrial Design from Emily Carr University in Vancouver, and studied Product Design at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weissensee, in Berlin, Germany. During the past few years, I've taken courses at the Yale School of Management, and the UCLA Anderson School of Management.

I enjoy talking about design, and have spoken at events such as SXSW, IxDA, Barcelona Design Week, IDSA, and Foo Camp. You can find out more — and any talks I might have coming up — here.
In the fall of 2011 and early 2012 I worked on a short film about UI, UX, & Experience Design called "Connecting". The film was produced by my self and some of my colleagues in the Windows Phone design studio, and filmed & edited by Bassett & Partners. The film features interviews with designers from across the industry (frog, Stamen, BERG, Microsoft, Method, and more) discussing their views, background, and directions on design.
I'm on the jury for the 2012 & 2013 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA).

I'm originally from Regina, a city in the middle of Canada in the province of Saskatchewan. Today I live in San Francisco, California, with my wife Dawn and our daughter.
I love to meet new people, say hi on Twitter.
